Playstation have released 10 minutes of Gameplay for the upcoming PS4 exclusive God of War 3: Remastered. It is coming out on 17th July (UK) and 15th July in the (USA). That got me thinking, Do we really need all these remastered games?
Well, my answer to that is somewhat bitter sweet. There are occasions where remastered games on today’s powerful and innovative hardware is a god send. Such as old point and click adventures, remade in high definition, with new controls so we can feel like a kid again without having to squint at the screen and try and make out what the objects are. Or games that if not remade from our childhood, we may never be able to play again for one reason or another.
Then on the other hand, you have games that see a new platform and just want to milk the games they already have without spending as much money on what a new game would cost. These are the games I have an issue with, as I personally buy a new console to have experiences I couldn’t have on the previous hardware, but every now and then there is a game so great that throws all that out of the window.
Games that looked and played amazing first time round, but were so far ahead of their time that they were destined to be made to look and play the best they possibly could, such as THE LAST OF US. This is where new more powerful hardware and a remastered game come together beautifully. Perhaps the game only recently came out and is still popular today like GTA 5, or you may have even skipped a gaming generation. (What the hell is wrong with you people?!).
Although there are some great examples of remastered and remade games that fully deserve their place within our gaming collections, there are far too many popping up that are just obvious cash cows.
So where does God of War 3: Remastered come into this? God of War 3 was originally released 5 years ago (can’t believe it’s been that long!) and it was an absolute hit getting rave reviews from all those in the gaming business. With its easy yet fun game play mechanics and great graphics for the time, it was a must have.
For this reason I would say that God of War 3 remastered for PS4 is one of those games that deserves a place in your collection. It has been long enough since its release for the story to seem new and with these updated graphics and smooth gameplay it truly seems a great example of a remastered game done right.
I for one can’t wait to find out if it lives up to my own hype when it releases this July.
A small note to those developers out there, Please give us fresh new games or the sequels we crave BEFORE you go back and re-release your old games.
